360 has more games, is more popular, has better online play, ps3 has better hardware, but costs more than a 360.

Pretty much what Sersoft said. The 360 has better software ATM, better online (worth the subscription IMO), and a wider userbase.
The PS3 has some good games on the horizon, but right now the 360 would be a better buy if you ask me. We'll need to see if the PS3's software quality goes up or not. |

Your friend might want to wait until all hardware issues are straightened out to get a 360. 3 years warranty is great, but it is frustrating to not have a console for almost 3-4 weeks (for me) when it does break. In my previous posts, i have mentioned that i am on 6 Xboxs, and possibly a 7th (it is acting up now).
Tell your friend to buy both systems and then he could have the best of both worlds. lol. I had my PS3 since launch. I never had one problem. It is a better made system and has everything you need implemented right out of the box (i have the original 60gb $600 version). The Playstation Network is not as robust as Live, in fact, it is pretty bland and terrible to navigate, but that could change when Home is released. Almost all games released RIGHT NOW for both platforms (except Oblivion, i have both versions) play and run better on the 360. But, this is something that could always be fixed with a patch for the PS3. But, just as Bahamut said, the 360 might be a better buy (if you can find one that works). Well I love my Xbox 360 to bits, it is a launch console and never had a problem except for a couple of disc read errors that are usually fixed with a turn off/on technique. Game-wise, well the Xbox 360 simply has more games, exclusivity-wise they have Gears of War, Halo 3, PGR, Forza, Mass Effect and Bioshock (tho its on PC too, as is Gears of War) the PS3's exclusives seem to be Final Fantasy XIII, MGS 4, Little Big Planet and Grand Tourismo. The rest of the games like Assassin's Creed, Oblivion and upcoming titles like Fallout 3, Burnout Paradise and Grand Theft Auto 4 are multi-platform.
I am looking at a PS3 in 2008 because their games seem tempting to me, namely Uncharted, MGS 4 and Little Big Planet. 2008 if I was going to buy one or the other I'd be tempted by the Playstation 3, the only thing that the Xbox 360 has that is exclusive that I love is Mass Effect, the rest of the games I enjoy are multi-platform. So... I'd actually say the Playstation 3, and I'm not even a PS3 owner... because they have the same multi-platform games, their 2008 lineup is clearly defined, PSN is shaping up, the PS3 can upscale DVD Movies and in 2009 I can only see them getting stronger whilst my dear Xbox 360 is seeming to start relying too much on sequels for games. |

The 360 can upscale DVD movies as well. Does it quite nicely, too. Just can't do it with HDMI (can't play them at all, meaning, unless you have exactly the right HDCP-enabled equipment) for some silly reason...so I guess the PS3 still has the upper-hand there. Or maybe not. I don't know if the HDCP problem is strictly Microsoft's fault or a fault of HDMI...
I don't like getting invested in these discussions, but all I'm compelled to mention is that my buddy's PS3 sits in the corner of his living room, collecting dust, while my 360 sees regular trips to their place to play games. Make of that what you will. They're both great consoles, but the 360 is where the games are (still, months later) at right now. Your friend needs to examine what he wants to play, how he wants to play it, what additional features he'll enjoy, and exactly how much he wants to pay to use them. Buying a console based on the one-off opinions of a bunch of forumers/strangers doesn't sound like such a great idea to me... ![]() ![]() "You are all weak! You are all bleeders!" 360 will upscale SD DVDs over HDMI or VGA. These days all the Pro 360s and up have HDMI (not sure if the 'Arcade' 360s do or not).
Like everyone above says, right now the 360 has a lot more gaming to offer than the PS3. It's possible that could change, but the 360 had a rediculous number of great games come out in the past 4 months. Corvall |

I have both consoles, and as of now the 360 is the superior one. Not only does it have more awesome exclusive content, but multiplatform games are better on the 360 more often than not. Personally, I say get the 360 now and the PS3 when MGS4 comes out.

That's a question that one of my friends asked me. I basically told him that if he was interested in getting into the new era of gaming, he'd be better off with the Xbox 360 because more developers and game companies are backing this system --he'll have a wide selection of games to choose from. On the flip side, the 360 really didn't get popular until a year later when more games came out for it, and with the PS3, it's basically in the same situation.
With the 360 you get a good library of games and solid online gaming with Xbox Live, but you also risk reliability issues with the console, which has been far from stellar. You also have to factor in the hidden costs of buying a 360. You'll need to buy the wireless adapter to get connected to Xbox Live and the additional 50 bucks for a Gold membership. With the PS3, all of these features are included with its on board wireless and free PSN online service. So basically, if you want gaming action now...go for the 360. The PS3 has a lot of potential, but it may take a while for it to build up speed as a really great machine. My PS3 definitely doesn't see as much action as the 360, but this may change as more content comes out for it this year. Last edited by Quasar; January 3rd, 2008 at 11:59 PM.. |

) We tried playing Crackdown some months ago, he couldn't host, and when I did he would get booted because of his latency. The thing you do need to get, though, is a Play & Charge kit. $20 saves you a ton on batteries. Last edited by BahamutBBob; January 4th, 2008 at 02:22 AM.. |

I only need a 10cm one. If that, my xbox is literally next to my router.

PS3 because you get wireless internet, wireless controller, good size hard drive, downloadable content(most is free), free online play and blu ray player all included with the price of just the system. And yes I own both systems.

That alone would push me away from the system, unless it has the option of plugging in an ethernet cable. And from what I hear, even though PSN is free, Xbox Live is so much more reliable and easy to use.
