Square Enix is in the final stages of buying out Taito, the coin-op video game company responsible for such classics as Space Invaders and Arkanoid. Square Enix purchased over 340,000 shares of Taito stock over the months of August and September. Some have doubted the wisdom of such a purchase as the shares for Taito were bought for a price well above the going value of the stock.
The initial reaction from shareholders of Square Enix was not favorable. Is there a future for Final Space Fantasy Invaders? Time will tell if these companies will have a successful venture together.
