“Ultimate Spider-Man” swung its way into stores across the country this morning, amid a ferocious promotional campaign from publisher Activision. The title follows an original story from the writers of the “Ultimate Spider-Man” comic book series. In the exciting game, players control both Spider-Man and Venom, a super-evil villain familiar to Spider-Man fans. The in-game art, developed by illustrators from the “Ultimate Spider-Man” comic series, also promises to be engaging.
“Using Treyarch's amazing technological and artistic capabilities, ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ lets gamers play both sides, as Super Hero and Super Villain, in an authentic living, breathing comic book universe… With an original story, gigantic cast of characters and truly unique visual presentation, ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ is poised to be the most immersive Spider-Man video game experience to date,” said an Activision spokesperson.
Players control both the characters in a huge Manhattan free-roaming environment, utilizing a new “3D Comic Inking Technology” that in previews left many stunned. The title sports the largest number of interactive Marvel characters ever in a Spider-Man game. “Ultimate Spider-Man” was developed by Treyarch, the studio behind “Call of Duty 2” and the very successful “Spider-Man 2.” The game has been given a “T” for Teen rating from the ESRB. It is available for: Playstation 2, Xbox, PC, Nintendo DS, Gamecube, and Game Boy Advanced.
