View Full Version : Idea for the Mods of this site

I had an idea and wanted to know what the Mods think about it.

With this being a brand new site and all, I think it would be cool to have a special icon for users that signed up during the startup of the site. Like an avatar or something showing that they were with the site from the beginning, I know that your rank will show how often you post but I think it would be really cool to have something saying that you were here from the beginning.

Let me know what you guys think.

There's a "join date" out on the left. Isn't that cool enough?

I'm thinking more like a founding member Icon, kind of like the admin has founding admin next to their name. Not that it matters, it just nice to see things like that on a forum

Yeah, it'd be cool enough. So long as everybody is cool about it, and not start to suck up to people because of the little signs, and all that...;)

Anyways, not really decided on agreeing or disagreeing. But maybe try posting suggestions such as this in the "feedback" forum..? I dunno.

EDITed: I somehow left out "is cool about it", above. Go figure.

Not sure that will happen..Anyways the "beginning" was Christmas Eve..Try the feedback forum and see what happens..

Well this is still the beginning stage of the site, I didn't mean from the very first day

No way! We need an icon that says "I have more coolness in my little pinky that you have in your entire family". Or alternatively it could say "you suck and I don't".

(Just kidding. People get too hung up on stuff like this on boards. Your join date does not make you special IMHO.)

EDIT: And of course what makes you really cool is a sig like mine that proves you have a serious BF2 addition problem. :)

What counts is the things you contribute to the site..Like info, good conversation, etc etc..

yes I agree, but icons help to keep some members loyal to the site and drive traffic as well, not to mention when there are thousands of members in the future it would be nice to be recognized as a founding member. Icons can also show how knowledgable you are, i.e. if you post good meaningfull posts you get an icon or you get rated higher then members who just keep posting to get their rank up.

As it stands right now the more you post the higher rank you get, so you can basically go along posting meaningless posts and your rank will still increase. It kind of defeats the purpose of rank.

*edit* Its nothing that I am really hung up on, I am just throwing the idea out there.

No Doubt. I'll forward this to CKilla.

I believe with VB you can implement a system that allows people to give a sort of kudos to one another if there post was insightful and what not...I have seen this done on another site that uses VB...They also give an option for the user to show it or not...

The reason why it says founding admin in my title is I own this website and had the idea to start and found it.

You can't go along posting meaningless posts, that is something I won't acccept in this community...all posts must be made on topic and maturely. Read the forum-rules, people are not allowed to spam to increase their post count...anyone found spamming in aims of increasing post count or any reason face the possibility of loosing rank alltogether or banning for some time. Therefor the posting rank images are a nice thing to have for the members who have dedicated there time posting well-thought out and acceptable messages in the forums.

We don't need a "Founding Member" group as we I don't think such an inccentive is necessary to get people to stick around, I hope they enjoy the community the way it is. Thank you for your suggestion though any input is welcome, consider posting more and being a part of the community and being a so called founding member in that sense. :cool2:

I am not uptight, I'm stating the truth...I thanked your for your ideas and said any input is welcome and gave my reply, if you wish to leave that is up to you...it just seems to me your asking for a title that is not needed other than for your own "power trip," as you put it. It already says the date people joined and that should be enough like others have said previously.

EDIT: This must be a misunderstanding indeed...i was not accusing anyone of Spamming I was giving the defination of it and what is allowed to show you how post count abuse will not be tolerated as you said.

Yes mike.
It wasnt directed towards you. CKilla is a very nice guy. Ithink this was a big misunderstanding..Basiclly a general thing.

Actually I wasn't asking for anything, if you read my post I said I was just throwing out ideas from things that I have seen on other forums, these were all ideas not requests buddy. Thanks for ruining what I thought would be a great new site, I guess I'll stick with bf2.com

Yes I am definitely considering implenting a system such as that where people can be rewarded for there help and participating by kudo type system that vB has built in...i will investigate into that.

Mike...the second paragraph was a response to your comment that people will simply abuse the ranking system and post spam, nothing against you.

"Above this post is a prime example of how a text-based medium is more prone to causing misunderstanding than, say, a spoken one. Also, we see how much extra effort clearing said misunderstanding up takes from the participants, and how the end result still seems somewhat less than optimum for either party. Finish your notes, class, next we move on to visual interpretations of olfactorially induced sensory phenomena." :D

Seriously, though: Mike, the suggestion was fine, and Ckilla considered it, then rejected it. Nobody was being uptight, but the wording was somewhat formal due (I think) to the fact that the site is new, which makes one think in manifests and "leaving no room for misunderstanding".

Hope you reconsider w/ regards to your comment on "sticking with bf2.org .

If people really want to be special they can donate to the XBF2 community and get a XBF2 Supporter tag under their name. This will really distinguish them as members of the community ;) lol ;)

The "support"-tag is a way cool idea, though!
