Ok, I know the mod is years old, but today I decided I would give it a go for the heck of it.

I didn't like it.

It looks pretty and all, yes. The new textures are great, I love the fact that now HL2 takes advantage of my 20" monitor, but the maps, for some reason, I don't know why, they just look hollow, its like the mod team got the map and turned it upside down and anything that wasn't tied down, went.
The NPC seem nice, the new faces, some shiny for some reason, but it doesn't seem right when half their fingers are still blobs and their clothes have pixelated stains on them. Also, Barney, holy crap, its like the love child of David Hasselhoff and Ben Afleck, Alyx looks like she had a bath in fake tan and Kliener, looks spectacular, except sometimes, he turns in the right direction and looks like the next super villain, Breem also seems to clean, not to my liking.

I didn't play much, just the until after you teleport out of Klieners lab.

This mod is pretty much a catalogue of pretty skins, grab what need fom it and put it into HL2, not much else. I give it a 6/10, because of this mod not being a massive long distance effort, I feel there isn't much 'love' in it, sure it looks good, but I lacks so much. I may review further, but for now, this game will lay dormant for now.

Those are exactly the reasons why I never bothered with it. From screenshots, the characters all seemed phenomenally ugly. They just looked weird and out of place.

Everything looks far too plastic and artificial, I used to like it but the newer releases just look terrible.

Music is very nice though, although it does get quite repetitive in the end.

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I have modded the hell out of some games, but I have left HL2 completely untouched... to me, messing around with the game is like trying to improve the Mona Lisa.

(this isn't to say I don't play mods that require HL2... these are separate programs that do not mess with the HL2 game files)

IIRC, you could choose to change what you wanted. Personally, I didn't like what they did with the audio. My rig can't handle the visual enhancements, which is the real attraction. I've seen some screenshots though. Some skins look really good, and others look really bad.

It's fantastic for a user-mod, but not for me.

I've seen a bit of it over the years, and a agree that it has been degrading in quality, just saw a video on gametrailers showing the latest(I think) version and holy **** Breen and Barney... Not a pretty sight.

And Alex looks like she's covered in doughnut glaze.

Not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing, but she's covered in doughnut glaze.

That could make for an interesting GMod movie vinc ;)
