I am in the process of building my own computer. I had it budgeted at about 1700, but after some price cuts, I got it down to 1500. I currently have a Geforce 6800 on the list as my vidoe card. Ownage Time suggested I should get a 7800. I have enough room on my motherboard to upgrade later. Should I stay with it, or use the extra 200 dollars to upgrade to a 7800?
Or maybe another graphics card?

P.S This would be a gaming computer.

Well, you really can't buy any good 6800 or 7800 cards for $200. You're going to end buying a crappy budget version or more likely the 6600. If I were you, I would scrape together another $100 and buy the eVGA GeForce 7800 GT CO PCI Express 256MB. This is the fastest clocked 7800 GT on the market and can perform about as good as the GTX in almost all tests. It would be much better for you in the long run. You can find it here for $324:

Don't worry about SLi, you won't need it. One card will do just fine in any game. If you're an FPS hog, then you may want to look into it, but for the most part, don't worry about wasting your money.

Definitely go with the 7800. The 6800 is already going out of date. With new cards coming out this month or the next, the 6800 is out of its prime.

It's acutally smarter to buy a card and then upgrade to the 2nd generation successor when the time comes than it is to SLi your machine. It distributes the cost over a 1-2 year period and extends the life of your system longer than SLi. PLus you don't have to worry about power supplies, expensive SLi motherboards, and an expensive processor to use it.

That was what I was thinking about, but then I found the 7800 gt for about 300. The 6800 is about 280 (both are newegg prices) so I think i will go with th 7800.

P.S the 7800 also comes with quake 4!

P.S the 7800 also comes with quake 4!Congrats on living in a country with graphics cards at relatively cheap prices. Down here in local currency (1.6 when compared to USD) its close to about $900 maybe because of import tariffs.
