Hmmm... well Skate.. When you hit the power can you hear your HD spinning up? Does the computer give off any beeps as it starts up?

You may need to open the case. Unhook anything that is not entirely necessary to boot the machine (id cd-roms, NIC card, sound card ... basically you want a keyboard, mouse, monitor, video card, HD and RAM and that's it). Try booting like that, if it works one of the other components is shorting everything.

If that doesn't work, check and see what you have for RAM and try removing some of it. Then rotate through the sticks you have to see if maybe you have a bad RAM stick causing some trouble.

If that doesn't work and you feel really energetic you can try taking everything out of the inside of your computer and rebuilding it on a desk or table with no case. I had one machine once that would not boot at all inthe case. With all the components out on the counter it worked fine, I got a new case and I was in business, somehow everything shorted on the case so nothing was receiving any power.

Anyways, if you are comfortable with it give those a shot, otherwise you are left with taking it to a computer store, standing at the counter, crying, and begging them to fix it!

Cheers!

If you've got another computer and your parts are compatible with that computer, switch out parts until the second computer stops working, to see if you shorted anything out.

I did this with a friend's computer, turns out my friend (who is a massive idiot) bought DDR2 memory for an AMD compatable motherboard, so the memory was fried.

Is your monitor turned on and plugged in all the way? Or in the right spot for that matter?

This happened to my dad.. he got all pissed because he bought this computer from me, and he said it "didnt work" so I go over there and he's got the damn monitor plugged into the onboard video rather than the video card. So yeah that fixed it in a hurry, sometimes something that trivial can be overlooked.

monitor is one hundred percent in, its not my monitor becuz the green light on my cpu wont come on and it comes on when the computer starts up, only the red light comes on meaning it got power coming to it... i dont know i think something is rong with my hard drive even tho it still makes noise like its trying, it usually stops and shuts off on its own now, i guess i need a new hard drive?

That happened to me before, where my computer would get power, but wouldn't boot up.

Have you checked your power supply? Nowadays computers should have 300, 350, or 400. If not higher, that is.

My computer had a 200-watt one, and was trying to run all my high-end stuff, and I was surprised when my computer stopped working after I had shut it down.

I had the same problem where I thought my system bit the big one to go to the great computer store in the sky. Try unplugging the hard drive (s) and reseeding the cables. For some reason mine keep coming loose. It's worth a shot.

If your PSU was knackered you probably wouldn't get any lights on at all. It could be your mainboard or CPU. If it doesn't even give you a load screen (Bios POST) then you may have a crook mobo.....

Okay. Get some socks and put them on. Then drag them around the carpet to create static electricty. Then, go up to your computer and every single part inside it, esepcially the MOBO and GPU, get them static shocked, it might give the computer the extra juice it needs to turn on!!!

And, Take off the heatsink for your cpu. Let it cool down a little bit to the real air. The metal might be heating up too much or it could be defective.

Btw: Dont listen to anything I just said.

when my friend was installing his motherboard, I told him about static electricity and all that and hes pretty smart, however one time he went to point to some component and a spark flew like an inch right to his mobo, I almost died laughing after the initial 'shock', he was like, on the verge of screaming or something. Turns out everything works 100% though, whatever he sparked either wasn't directly wired into the mobo (maybe the outside casing on a capacitor or something). Was a tense 20 minutes while we hooked the rest of the stuff up and powered it up.

By the way, you said absolutely nothing comes up on your screen, so I'm assuming you can't reach the bios. First, make sure there are no cd's in the hard drive, no floppy disc, and no peripherals connected to any usb ports. Onetime my computer did the exact same thing you're talking about. turned out it was the ipod shuffle I had connected to the usb port, my computer was trying to boot from it, rofl.

Yeah, and if that does fix the problem, have it boot to the hard drive first, or the floppy drive if you still play games that require boot diskettes... (I do.....)

If you can't see the BIOS, then it won't be looking at a floppy or something, cause the PC will POST first (Power On Self Test) and you'll either a motherboard logo or see the writing about mem checking etc, THEN it'll look for something to boot from.....so if you cannot get anything at all i still say i think it's a touch more serious.....

If there is nothing coming on screen at all, maybe try and remove and reseat any expansion cards aka sound solutions, grphx cards etc.
Ram should also be looked at being removed reseated etc.

For a machine not to atleast POST, there is high probability that something is seriously borked...or just not seated correctly in its slot.

Process of elimination mate, im sure youll get there in the end.
