View Full Version : Rollover ads make me sad.

Just saying... they sometimes cover up the news articles, and then I end up on some crappy movie homepage that I have no intention of seeing.

I just wanted to see if other users have the same grievances... if not, I'll live :P

Rollover ads are the worst thing to happen to the internet since the banner ads that made noise. "HELLOOOOOOOOOO"

Firefox + NoScript & Adblock = win.

But, I like supporting websites so I don't block much at all.

Oh, I'm sorry. You mean this site suffers from popups, rollovers and other such commercial ills? I had no idea. I'm blissfully ignorant, I'm guessing thanks to FF and adblock plus. I'm all for simple banner ads myself. It's the intrusive stuff that makes the countermeasures necessary.

As far as i was aware google ads charges the site owner everytime you click the link, so if you go there without an interest in what they're selling, you're really doing them no favours at all.
Unless by site owner you meant that you want google to make more money?

Yeah. They give money to the site hosting the ads, but not the site that's being advertised I believe.

I really doubt this decision came from GN specifically. Parent sites generally work out advertising and budgets and all that for subsidiaries.

But yeah, rollovers are pretty awful. I'll generally whitelist a site that I regularly visit and display all ads, but once there is autoplaying audio or rollover ads, I really can't stand to browse without blocking.

Glad I'm not the only one... most of the time, I have no problem with ads, (most here on Gamernode arn't those retarded flashing ones) but for whatever reason, the ads roll right over the news section(first place I check when I come online). Just strange placement in my opinion.

You should see the kinds of ads that we won't do. There's stuff that make even pop-ups without a pop-up blocker look tame.

No, I'm not complaining about them on your site, I'm just complaining in general. Thanks for blocking the others.

FFS these ****ing ads that make sound on their own are really gay, every time I go to a new page on GN I need to listen to this **** about joining the army.

Just get adblock, you can rightclick on the ad and select "block ad" and you will never see/hear it again.

At least they don't have those ads that tear a hole in your browser and have a car come flying out of the screen and whatnot.

Those ads are leagues more annoying.

I will be more than happy to nolonger allow these ads on GN if you wouldn't mind giving us a check to pay the bills every month.

Something Firefox will never need.

But I agree if you can't install firefox you have 2 choices 1) Install ie7pro, 2) install firefox to a usb drive (usb key, mp3, phone or whatever)

lol like David said, we gotta pay the bills somehow. Luckily, the ads we do host seem pretty good compared to some of the ads you find on other websites.

As always though, thanks for trying to understand why they're there and continuing to support the Node! :salute:

You're killing Gamernode with your selfish ad-blocking, Sean. You murderer.

It'd be nice if you disable them on sites you enjoy, so as to support them. ;)
