Well, I've decided to start a thread about the old classic: MW2.

Recently I dusted off an old MS-DOS copy of MechWarrior 2, and thanks to some instructions I found on the net I was able to get everything up and running.

It's been around 6-7 years since I last played it, and although the 8-bit graphics are just as bad as anything you'd expect from the year 1995, I have to say I've been having more fun playing it than I have playing any modern game in a while!

MechWarrior 2 (in my humblest of opinions) was the last one in the series that made you feel like you were piloting a huge machine, rather than playing an FPS with big robots.

Are there any other lost fans of MechWarrior or anything else involving the BattleTech universe hanging around here?

Nope, I actually tried getting Mech2 up and running on my machine about three weeks back. Unfortunately though, 16-bit apps don't fare too well under a 64-bit operating system, and the usual workarounds like DOSbox and hexed files don't work.

Either way, the soundtrack kicks total arse and iTunes automatically ripped it all for me, so it wasn't a total loss. I always have it playing when I've got a game of Supreme Commander going - it just fits perfectly.

I wish I still had MW2 and Mercenaries. Those two were awesome. Did you guys ever play Heavy Gear? I had a lot of fun with that one.

Ah mechwarrior2, I loved that game along with red alert. Although when I try to play it now I just cant take my mind off the ****ty graphics which is a shame.

I was a huge Mechwarrior 2 fan when it came out, and still have the retail CDs, but I haven't played it for years, I remember at some point Activision completely pissed me off about something regarding MW2, I think it was maybe the move from DOS to Windows and something about having to pay for the expansion to get it running in Windows of something, I can't even remember anymore.
MW2 is pretty much the only mech battle game I've ever been into, I never got into the canon behind the games, but I loved the games themselves.

MW2 was a classic. MECHCOMMANDER GOLD! I love that. Forgot how many people I did copies for after it ceased production.
