It’s been a busy, busy week here at your favorite online gaming news outlet. With the release of the Xbox 360 drawing nearer and nearer, it seemed like every company not involved with the launch was taking a vacation to avoid being drowned out in the oncoming media blizzard. Even news-heavy “Release-Tuesday” saw only a few breaking stories. It seems there’s a bit of an activity vacuum at Microsoft that’s sucking up all the energy in the industry. Behind the scenes here at GN, management is in its own flurry of activity.

First, it seems appropriate to welcome a few new writers whose work you may have noticed. First, Jon from GamerStation joined the team here at GN from his home base in Minnesota, and started off strong with a piece on the Xbox 360’s launch titles. Also from GamerStation came Kaleb and Matt, who will be working on the rapidly-approaching GN radio show. In addition, we welcome Jeremy, from the Gaming News Bureau, who issued his opinion piece on G4 Television this week from Southern California.

I was extremely excited this week to travel with Mike, GN Public Relations Director, to the GenCon convention in Anaheim, where we pressed the flesh and rubbed elbows with cosplay fans and sci-fi/adventure/fantasy gamers. Jeremy joined Mike and I for coverage of the event.

While in Southern California, why not hang with some celebrities? Mike and I were wetting ourselves at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, and I’m afraid Mike may have developed quite a crush on Charlize Theron. Sam Jackson did an excellent job of hosting the awards, held in Universal City, and game junkies should be sure to tune-in to the awards broadcast on Saturday, December 10, at 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific.

But it wasn’t all crisp suits and glamour, as the rest of the GN staff continued to work their butts off to get the new site up and running, as well as get the radio program off the ground. The infrastructure is in place, and our coding team is hard at work shaping the bells and tuning the whistles that will set GamerNode even further apart from the competition.

I’d like to keep going, but Charlize is calling me on my cell (sorry, Mike), and it’s about time I strap in and prepare for the monstrous launch of the Xbox 360. Keep on playin’, gamers.

Well let me know when they roll out the next generation of super desktop PCs. I personally don't care for consoles myself, although that might make me the minority here.
