Midway Games has announced that it has signed a deal with TNA Entertainment for an exclusive contract to produce video games based upon TNA, the extreme wresting show. TNA wrestling, which stands for “Total Nonstop Action” recently replaced the popular WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) show on the satellite-cable station, Spike TV. TNA took over the spot after negotiations between Spike TV and WWE broke down. WWE reportedly demanded 40% more for signing a contract. Spike TV responded by dropping them.
If the TNA games are anything like the show, it will offer the signature moves and unbelievable gymnastics that TNA wrestling is known for. David Zucker, CEO of Midway said, "It's fast, powerful and cutting-edge in both presentation and style. We are very pleased to be working with TNA and look forward to leveraging our expertise in the fighting game genre to create the most compelling wrestling experience yet."
Dixie Carter, president of TNA Entertainment said of the deal, "Our brand of wrestling is perfectly suited to videogames and Midway is the perfect company to create them. We are very excited about this collaboration and the opportunity to expand TNA Wrestling to a new medium."
The new games will be available for next-gen consoles, the PC and handhelds. The schedule release date is for 2007.
