Don’t pretend you didn’t see this one coming. 2K Games announced a deal today with Sony Pictures to publish the video-game interpretation of Ron Howard’s upcoming “Da Vinci Code” feature film, based on Dan Brown’s ubër-best-selling novel of the same name. The game is scheduled for a May ’06 release, to coincide with the film’s expected summer premiere. "We are thrilled to work with Sony Pictures on one of its most anticipated film properties," said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director at 2K Games. "The Da Vinci Code is exactly the type of high-caliber licensed property 2K Games looks for when developing movie-based games."
The title will be developed by “The Collective,” a division of Foundation 9 Entertainment. Charles Cecil, of “Broken Sword” fame, has joined The Collective for the development process.
2K Games is promising a riveting action title, revolving around the film’s dealings with secret societies, vengeance, and ancient mysteries. Dan Brown’s “The Da Vinci Code” is (cough) the best-selling novel of all time, and Tom Hanks has been tapped to star as the protagonist in the feature film version of Brown’s book.

Yay. I love it. A great book as a game. I also love the broken sword games.
Hope they do it properly though.

wow. makes me wonder if the game will be simple enough, as it could have many of the same puzzles from the book. Like a strategy guide, you know?
i don't know how you could make the game exciting, since most of the plot of the book invloves people sitting around and talking. Sure, there was a car chase at the beginning, but that is it in terms of action. :(

I agree with this. How could you create a fun gameplay. Would the game a an rpg, an adventure game, or somthing unusual like indigo prophesy? I just can't see how they would set the game up so it would be playable. Any ideas?

Making a book into a pc game might turn out to be difficult. So I think they are gonna have to make up some new stuff, and go away from the story line a bit. But if they could make it exiting at the same time as they followed the book, that would be the best.

Angels and Demons > The Da Vinci Code.
Perfect! combine BOTH books (as one follows the other) and make a larger game. Double the fun right there. :)
And yes they will have to butcher the plot of the book. Is a given every time you are trying to make a speaking adventure into an action adventure. ;)

I agree with Jacob. Angels and Demons also had gun fights and hand to hand, not to mention the deaf assasin. It would be cooler to do Angels and Demons.

A deaf assasin? where is the since in that? If Solid Snake was deaf, he wouldn't last a minute infiltrating a base, as he wouldn't hear the gun fire shooting at him till it DID shoot him. :o
But yeah, tie the two of them together. would make more sense. Could prehaps make it like MGS2: one chapter takes place a few years earlier than the other. :)
...wow. seriously, those MGS references were by accident. i'm surprised i made a big deal out of it. i was improvising. :D

No what I meant was I favored angels and demons more. But ya, it was first, might as well combine the games. Call it the Robert Langdon legacy. Hes the next james bond right, a different women in the 2 books and he even "goes to bed" as they say in the first one, hes totally the fast thinking james bond:P. Totally tehe.

Except he isn't a James Bond like character. they can do it for the game maybe, but the books...seemed too much like a wuss to me. The female role in the second book was tougher than him. The old guy they went to for HELP was tougher than him.

If he was just like the first James Bond how would his character be unique enough to sell books?

Touche. 007 aka James Bond...overused character. Even so, Bond type character WOULD be a better choice than Robert Langdon himself. Robert is more likely to put together a 500 piece puzzle than fight of assasians from radically religious people.
