Do you have old video games sitting on your shelves collecting dust? Have you been meaning to bring them in to the local video game store to get a few dollars back on your original purchase price? There may be a better use for those old titles of yours. “Kids Wish Network”, a national charity which dedicates its time and resources in helping children with life threatening illnesses, is asking gamers across the nation for help. The charity is currently experiencing a shortage of video games for kids that are between the ages of 13-18. The games are used for “teen gift bags” which are distributed to chronically ill children in hospitals and homes.

While video game are usually taken for granted by us, it is not so with kids that have serious medical problems. Martha Benzor, a Kids Wish Network volunteer at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles said, “Most of our patients are medically indigent, with very limited resources, [but] the wonderful toys they receive helps enlighten their lives.” According to a Kids Network Statement, “A new toy or game can quickly dry the eyes of a frightened child and distract them from stinging needles, scary machines and the loneliness of being in a strange place.”

Gifts to the charity are tax deductible. Kids Wish Network will pick up the cost of the shipping charges for the games you send them. If you’d like to donate, visit their website at: [http://www.kidswishnetwork.org or call toll free at 888.918.0788 for more information about this, and other programs they sponsor.
